Hi all – here’s some important news about Feed Filter.
Unfortunately it appears that the changes Facebook made to the News Feed several months ago are now permanent. :-( This means that Feed Filter is not able to detect the type of each post (“likes something”, “became friends with”, etc.) and many of Feed Filter’s features are no longer working. Some of them, however, can be achieved by using the “Words to hide” feature. For example, adding an entry for “recommends a link” will hide posts with that phrase in them. Some posts are easier than others to do this way though.
I’ve decided that it’s just not fair to keep the program available for new users when so many things aren’t working anymore. For that reason, I’ve removed Feed Filter from the Firefox add-ons library, and I’ll be ending support for the program in 3 months, at the end of November, 2012. At that time, if you’ve already installed the add-on in Firefox, it’ll continue working the same as it does now, but I won’t be providing any further support or updates for it.
If you still find the add-on useful, feel free to continue using it. And if the situation changes before the end of November, I’ll try to get things working again. Otherwise, there are other good programs such as Social Fixer that might work better for you. It’s no longer able to filter posts based on the type either, but it has a lot of other features you might find useful, including a more advanced version of the “Words to hide” feature, called “Filters”.
Thanks for all the support over the last three years — it was a good run. :-)
Russell
