« on: October 21, 2003, 11:06:42 PM »

Hey russell,
Could u also maybe in the next version or something to be able to name the webpages for FSHost instead of having to name them "User2.html" And name it like "Test.html" something like that also be able to put webpages in certain folders and be able to access them also?

Hi,

Actually this restriction is for security reasons.  Most web servers let you use any filename, and put the files in different directories.  But the problem is that eventually someone figures out a way to hack the web server and request a page that they shouldn't have had access to.  By doing it this way, FSHost will only serve files that it knows about, and you can be sure someone's not hacking into it to gain access to your machine.  (think about all the security patches we see from Microsoft related to their internet products ;) )  This makes the web server in FSHost much more secure than normal web servers, although it does make things a bit more restrictive.  But since security is of primary importance, I'm afraid this will probably have to stay this way.

Sorry,

Russell
