Can you include more information?

What version of Windows?
What version of DirectX?
What do you see when you start the software?

Sure ;-)

Windows XP

Direct X 9.0B (not positive, but I believe it's the latest version)

I see the FS Host window, everything is normal except there is nothing in the main screen where it should say stuff like "You are now hosting on IP bla bla bla"

It's just pure white, nothing happens.

Thanks,
Lance

Do you have a green 'run' arrow or a black 'stop' square on the console tool bar? You may well be running FSHost, but without starting the actual session, which is where all those happy messages come into play.

I believe there is also a checkbox in one of the admin pages that tells FSHost to automatically start the session on program launch. If it was de-selected, that would explain the 'change' in behavior.

Black box.  The server is running and it's set to automatically run at startup.  I've used all previous editions of FS Host with out any problems.  This is the first one to do this?  I downloaded it a couple times, thinking it was just a bad download, but still nothing.

I've stopped the server, and re-started it and all I see is a blank white area where the server is now started info should be ;-)

Looks like I got ya guys on this one ;-)

thanks though,
Lance

Can you connect to the server? Try turning on all the logging options and see if anything shows up. If that doesn't help, try selecting the text area with the mouse to see if there's anything in there. If the text is the same color as the background, selecting it with the mouse will make it visible.

Maybe there is something in the registry that is messed up.

Can you alter any/all the logging options under the configuration tabs?

Do you have write access to the directory in which you installed FSHost? (I've had many game issues with XP because I install them, and the kid's ID's can't run a game that is required write access to it's local directory).

Once you are sure you have write access, try creating a shortcut with a modified command line that adds a session name to the command
"C:\Program Files\FSHost\FSHost30.exe" /s Test

That should create a set of options for the 'Test' session which would not be shared with the standard session.

I have admin control of the computer and I'm able to change all the server options, logging options, etc...

This is really bizarre...  I wonder why this version doesn't run but all previous versions have without issue?  I guess i'll try the "/s Test" comand.  What will that do for me again?  Allow me additional options?

Thanks again!

actually, all it does is start a session named "Test" that will have it's settings back at the original defaults. If there is an issues with the registry keys, it should give you a whole set of new keys for the Test session. I run 3 sessions on my system (Win98se) "Prod", "Beta", and "West".

There are more things you have to worry about if you are running multiple sessions, but it you just start the one session with the /s option, it should start cleanly.
