Multiple Copies Problem (3.1b27)
« on: August 09, 2006, 08:57:26 AM »

Ok, I have 2 copies of FSHost that I run on my computer. I updated them to 3.1b27 a few nights ago from 3.0. The power went out this morning so I had to go start the servers again. I have both servers in their own separate folders, but when I go into the free flight server's folder and start it, it shows up as the ATC Server and I lose all my information that I put in on the free flight server. Then I start up the atc server and its fine.

By then I'm starting to wonder, so I fix all the stuff in the free flight server, and the ATC Server freezes and I restart it. Guess what? It shows up as the free flight server! I dont know what the heck is going on here!

BTW, it is over at Ultimate Flight-http://www.ultimateflight.net

Hi,

Are you using shortcuts to the FSHost program, with the /s option?  See this help page for more:

Nope I'm not using shortcuts. I start each program in the folder that I unzipped them to, because I can never get a shortcut to work LOL ;) I have had no problem of this with 3.0 or 3.1b25.

Ok, that's definitely the problem then.  FSHost stores its settings in the registery, so if you don't use the /s option in a shortcut, both copies of FSHost are sharing the same registry settings and overwriting each other.  When you use a /s option, it tells that copy of FSHost to store its settings in a separate location in the registry so it doesn't interfere with other copies.  It's been this way since the beginning of FSHost, so I'm not sure why you've never seen the problem before unless you just got lucky somehow  :)

Try the help file I mentioned to get the shortcuts working, and it'll make things work a lot better.  If you run into trouble, feel free to post here again.

Thanks, I'll try that. Usually the other copies just worked right out of the box (or download?), so it could just be something with the download thats causing it.

I keep getting an error, and I'm doing exactly what the help file says. All I tried to do was add a /s freeflight after the Target and kept getting an error. I dont understand why it screwed up after I updated it though...

Oh well I'll just keep it at one server...

What's the exact line you're entering that's giving the error?

Note that if you have a space in the path, you need to put double quotes around it like this:

"C:\Documents and settings\FSHost\FSHost.exe" /s freeflight
